Introduction

 

Jonathan Savar is the founding partner of The Savar Law Firm. His practice focuses on representing startups, small businesses, emerging growth companies, venture capital investors, lenders and founders on mergers and acquisitions, venture capital transactions, debt finance, joint ventures and strategic alliances, licensing and IT transactions, franchising, governance, contracts, business formation and other commercial matters. Mr. Savar also regularly serves as outside general counsel to his clients, and counsels boards, C-level executives and management on critical governance matters as well as other important legal and business issues.

Legal Experience

Prior to founding The Savar Law Firm, Mr. Savar was a corporate attorney at several prestigious AmLaw 100 international law firms (Kirkland, Dechert and Skadden) as well as a few highly-regarded regional firms. During his long career as an attorney, Mr. Savar has successfully advised on billions of dollars of mergers and acquisitions (representing both buy-side and sell-side clients including private equity and venture capital investors as well as their portfolio companies) and billions of dollars of debt and equity financings (including private equity and venture capital transactions, acquisition financings, bank loan transactions, recapitalizations, restructurings and reorganizations).

In-House Experience

As a corporate deputy general counsel of a fintech in the insurance sector, Mr. Savar played an important role in the company's successful upsized IPO and concurrent private placements (total deal size: $1.2 billion) as well as its restructuring and expansion of its debt facilities.

 

Investment Banking Experience​

Also prior to founding The Savar Law Firm, Mr. Savar worked for many years as an investment banker at two international financial institutions arranging many billions of dollars of tax-advantaged leveraged leases (some of which won "deal of the year" awards from industry publications) of "big ticket" infrastructure, equipment and vehicles for corporate investors, financial institutions, government agencies and corporations.​

Affiliations

Mr. Savar is a member of the American Bar Association, where he is also a member of several committees including the Business Law Section. Additionally, Mr. Savar is a member of the New York City Bar Association.

Education

Mr. Savar was educated at Princeton University and The University of Chicago Law School. He served as Editor-in-Chief of The University of Chicago Legal Forum (advised by now Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan).
